An *excellent* example of unintended consequences!

(If one were to look up the word "blowback" in a dictionary... the plot to over-throw the elected government in Iran in 1953, and re-install a King over them, should be listed as a prime example.)

Something that looks quite successful in the short and mid-run... (gets everybody promoted and is talked about approvingly as a 'strategic success' for some years to come), but ultimately proves to be as harmful to the true strategic interests of America in the world (encouraging democratic, capitalistic, peaceful nations that respect the rule of law...) as sawing off one's own foot with a band saw might be. :-(
