Why do bashers bash? It's a topic that's as old as stock message boards? Is it part of a hedge fund scheme? There are many schools of thought out there.

There are some, who have done this for years and claim they do it for fun, enjoyment, etc. Others claim that they are good samaritans, trying to "save" others from scams.

Those who are long on stocks that are targeted, often claim that bashers are paid, that they work for hedge funds, etc.

It's a difficult area to discuss because those who bash rarely disclose motivation. We've seen evidence of financial arrangements connected to bashing on message boards at the Elgindy trial, with the activities of Jeff Thorpe, Goldfinger, the attorney plaintiff on the Matrixx case, and other hedge fund employees who have admittedly trolled message boards. Definitive answers are only beginning to be revealed. Much may happen in discovery in the case that hedge funds brought against the prime brokers claiming naked shorting.
