Fujitsu PC Corp. Delivers New LifeBook Notebooks; New LifeBook 900 Series, 700 Series and 675Tx Make Mobile Computing a More Comfortable and Convenient Experience

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1997--Fulfilling its commitment to deliver quality mobile computing solutions that are comfortable and convenient to use, Fujitsu PC Corp. (FPC) today expanded its LifeBook(TM) family of notebooks with the LifeBook 900 series of mobile desktops, the LifeBook 700 series of performance notebooks and the LifeBook 675Tx -- the newest member of the modular LifeBook 600 series.

With this announcement, FPC introduces 56K(1) data/fax/voice modems with DSVD (data and voice simultaneously), extended battery options and expanded audio/visual capabilities on many of the new LifeBook models, and DVD drive support and 13.3" XGA screens on the new LifeBook 900 series.

The first product in the new LifeBook 900 series is the LifeBook 985Tx, which, with its top-of-the-line specifications, puts the power of a desktop into the body of a notebook. The new LifeBook 700 series of performance notebooks complements the existing LifeBook 500 series. Available in three configurations -- the 765Tx, 755Tx and 735Dx -- this series provides greater flexibility and is ideally suited as a mainstream notebook solution.

At less than five pounds, the LifeBook 675Tx rounds out FPC's new offerings. This modular PC is powered by a 200MHz Pentium(R) processor with MMX technology(TM) and when placed in its snap-on LAN Enhancement Unit, it provides full desktop functionality without compromising the portability of the notebook.

"The latest additions to the LifeBook family are designed to meet a wide range of customer requirements -- both personal and professional," said Greg Chambers, vice president of marketing for FPC. "These LifeBook models extend our Built for Humans(TM) philosophy by bringing together the most advanced technology with the most convenient and comfortable design, empowering LifeBook users with mobile computing tools that enhance productivity."

Power + Comfort = LifeBook

Combining power, performance and functionality with thoughtful touches that make using the LifeBook a truly satisfying experience, the new LifeBook models boast several comfort and convenience features.

Highlights include internal modems for communications-ease, auto-sensing AC capabilities that make for hassle-free switching between AC and battery power, bridge batteries that support warm swapping of alternate batteries, hot swappable PS/2 ports for simplified peripheral connections and Fujitsu's easy open hinge technology.

The LifeBook 900 and 700 series feature the popular Fujitsu-designed ErgoTrac pointing device for superior cursor control and dual multi-function bays that enable LifeBook users to customize configurations to match their individual needs. A floppy disk drive, second Lithium-ion battery, 20x max CD-ROM drive, second hard drive and DVD drive (LifeBook 900 series only) are interchangeable within the two bays. This dual bay solution offers extended battery and storage options, as well as simultaneous access to both CD-ROM and floppy disk drives.

In addition, FPC continues to offer the convenience advantages of its previous LifeBook models. These include an Advanced Power Center for easy, on-the-fly power management, a large status display provides instant access to key operating information, full-sized keyboards offer a desktop-like layout for typing ease, comfortable large palm rests, PC card locks for added security and compatible peripherals across a series for lower cost of ownership.
