If I had any faith at all in government controlled programs, I would agree. Our current system is a mess. Dan spent one night in the hospital a couple of months ago and we are still getting bills right and left, some the insurance will pay, some they won't for weird reasons, and I have to call and fight, and we still are winding up paying a couple of thousand. The worst are the ones that have the hospital saying the insurance should pay, and the insurance arguing that it should have been included in the overall hosp fee. It's insane. And that was ONE NIGHT. But I am unwilling to agree on universal until I see what is proposed. Our system functioned fairly well for a long time. Someone made the point somewhere that we are the best in terms of trauma and catastrophic care, but suck at regular health care. Is a lot of this due to HMOs? I would prefer to fix things, rather than implement something totally unknown. I think we are very different from other countries in so many ways, I am concerned that what succeeds (or not) elsewhere is automatically possible and functional here. Mostly I just don't trust gov't. Or Congress. Or anyone right now. Which is probably why I like Ron Paul.
