ie.plastic surgery, viagra, enlargement of breasts and genataiglia,
Those aren't government programs, funded for the purpose of trying to "redress inequalities of looks, friends, or sex life."
re inequality of friends........what does he mean by that ,what does he consider a friend
Thats simple, some people have a lot of friends. Others have fewer or don't have any close relationships.
we redistribute a fraction of our wealth to placate the masses.....long term, its the smart thing to do.....
We mostly redistribute wealth based on age or to special interests.
As for placating people enough that they don't act out violently, the best ways to do that is to combine economic growth (which from the perspective of what the government can do, largely means not getting in the way of growth to to much taxes or regulation, or poor management of the money supply); combined with removal of any barriers the government imposes in participation in the growth (from legal/official racial discrimination which is pretty much gone, to barriers put in place to favor special interests and close out competition, which is still a problem); having a good education system (which doesn't have to be a government run system); and having police forces that do a good job of keeping the peace without being abusive and inciting a violent reaction themselves.
The idea that people are entitled to support from the government promotes social unrest rather then resolving it. Frances history over the past couple of decades provides a good example of that, from farmers and students disrupting the country with protests about any change in government programs which may effect them, to strikes, to more recently (and violently) the unrest in the banlieues.
You have a combination of people thinking they are entitled to get things from government, with high unemployment bought on in large part by all the governments regulations, esp. those that make it hard to fire people (if you can't fire someone your going to be VERY careful about hiring them). |
