Good Morning, Ms E and Gang!
Good to see ya up and about! Glad to hear they were able to find a cause and fix what was wrong with your FIL and that he is back to his old, ornery self! We went to my wife's grandmother, Grandma Schell, reunion over the weekend. She's the oldest of her siblings at 90 and still has 5 brothers and sisters around and most of them were at the reunion. Talking about ornery! I talked to her and heard her side of the argument and I know well the kids side of the argument. Well the kids are in their 60's and 90 y/o grandma is giving them fits. She wants to drive but they won't let her. She has to wait for them to do things and she's not happy about it. The kids haven't replaced the car she wrecked a couple of years ago, because of her driving ability. She is physically and mentally fit and doesn't see herself as incapacitated in any way. I'm sure these battles rage all around as older parents and older grandparents jockey for control. I've seen a similar battle over the years as my 98 y/o grandmom, my dad and aunt try to slow her down and get her to do REASONABLE things, like not drive, etc. It is a good type problem in that the older ones still have mental and physical abilities, but the younger ones are getting older and don't have the energy and strength to cope without getting frustrated and worn out. So, relatively healthy older generations create a whole new kind of problems to be dealt with.
We are going to my 98 y/o granny's this weekend for her 98th birthday party. She has told my mom and aunt the she is cooking the ham and turkey. She wants to know when mom will be there to help. Granny has always been one to have a spread of food at any meal, but especially grand when there is a gathering. So, in her mind she still needs to fix a multitudes of meats, veggies, deserts, etc. The rest of us are plenty satisfied with a more limited and manageable menu, for a crowd of 30 or so people. And that is where the rub comes in, between Granny's idea of what is needed and the rest of our ideas! It will be interesting to see where it ends up. My bet is on Granny!
