I've been following that the last few days. It came out of the blue. It's hard to say whether enforcement will be increased along with the fines. Right now they could just stop the beltway at any point in time and cite everyone for felonious speeding.

I find the fact that they didn't increase fines but created an add-on is interesting. Not sure what I think about it. It will be a problem at first, at least, if for no other reason than delays in setting up a whole new system.

I do think that fines currently are too low. Reckless driving (other than going 80 on the beltway when everyone else is <g>) or DUI should have fines in the thousands, not hundreds, to be a deterrent. I don't think that lesser charges like failure to stop completely at a stop sign should be part of it. Just the really dangerous stuff.
