John, I spoke to Tac Berry of Amati about the companies decision to
build ADSL/Ethernet into their first generation products about three
weeks ago. Basically, the ethernet decision was made because telcos
were telling them that is what they wanted at the time those decisions
were made.

IMO, I think it was the right decision. I did not ask if they are
specifically working on an ATM/ADSL modems but there is nothing in the
"standard" which precludes ATM. Indeed I think the standard is very
ATM friendly and I believe the CopperGold product supports it.

I think successful companies try and solve their customers problems. I
don't think that is a secret which Amati is blind to. That is to say, IMO,
I think they will supply ADSL/ATM modems/concentrators if there is
demand. I am NOT suggesting they will be successful in coming to
market with ATM/ADSL in a timely fashion to secure the 4 Bell's RFP.

As always, I encourge everyone to research companies before investing.

Cheers,
Daniel
