Maybe so......but it still wasn't stealing.

There's a national outcry to take Mexico; we start a war with them because we want their land;

Hold on.......we didn't start the war with Mexico......they attacked a garrison in TX. That started the war. In fact we had been trying to buy CA and NM for something like $35 million in order to keep Britain from taking over the west coast. However, the gov't was so unstable in Mexico, there was no consistency in the negotiations. Finally, Mexican pride dictated that selling would be a negative inspite of the fact they did not have the money to maintain their properties in what they called Alta California.

after winning the war, we pay them ten cents on the dollar for half of their country.

Ten cents on the dollar? Where did you come up with that figure?

Come on.....$18 million back then is probably worth a couple of billion these days. Not bad for what was mostly semi desert wasteland. Remember........this was CA just before the gold rush......and definitely before irrigation and air conditioning.

How is that not stealing?

I'm not saying we should give it back, but I'm not blaming Mexicans for being pissed off about it.

I am blaming them. I think its pretty stupid especially considering what a mess they have made with the rest of their country.
