FWIW

Too bad this thread has generated no interest. It was a good idea. It spells out my aim, too. And for several years I have succeeded simply by pricing my portfolio, and each component stock, in terms of the S&P 500 instead of in terms of "the dollar". (i.e the effective price is the dollar price divided an S&P500 index)

My focus is to see a steady growth in that "S&P500 value" of the PF. Growth implies outperformance of the S&P500. In effect, I am using the S&P500 as a "benchmark" instead of the dollar, trying to beat the S&P500 instead of the dollar.

(Could write more, if anyone nterested. IF not, mybe Ill use this thread as a blog !)
