All I can say about this deal is WOW. DEC gets money, which it needs desperately, Intel gets three things - 1 - Stability - The abscence of the damn suit. 2 - Rights to the Alpha chip - Very dubious value. 3 - Perhaps some fab access and some talent - value unclear. As a longtime holder of Intel I have seen an incredible long string of superb calls by perhaps the best management in business today. I have to believe that this is a good deal for them, because they haven't made very many bad moves in the last five years and I don't think they would start now. Perhaps they can use the Alpha (I don't see it). Perhaps they can use the alpha technology (pretty doubtful to me, but what do I know). Perhaps the fab access and talent are a worthwhile acquisition (Could be). But something in this deal is worth 1.5 big ones to the management of Intel. Anyone know if there is any money to be made selling alphas? Any spiffy technology secrets? Burt
