John, Interesting post. It's very rare to get a physician's point of view on this thread.

First off, why do you own Quidel if you don't find quick diagnostics efficient? Second, why is prescribing Motrin more cost-effective than administering an H Pylori test? If I recall correctly, the Quidel test costs under $10. If the patient exibits the symptoms of H Pylori, wouldn't it better to eliminate that possibility before attempting to treat an acid condition?

Also, are you offloading the taking of the blood sample and all of the other post-test tasks to a lab service, like many HMOs? If so, wouldn't it be more efficient for the lab to use quick-diagnostic tools?
