TimeStep Introduces Large-scale Security Solution For
Creating And Managing Multiple Secure VPNs

Industry's first scaleable security solution for massive carrier and enterprise
deployments

KANATA, Ontario, Oct. 6 /CNW-PRN/ - TimeStep Corp., a Newbridge(R) affiliate, today
introduced PERMIT Enterprise(TM), the first secure virtual private network (VPN) solution capable
of large-scale business communications over the Internet. By integrating best-of-breed technologies
from market leaders Entrust(R) and Check Point(TM) Software Technologies Ltd.
(Nasdaq:CHKPF - news), PERMIT Enterprise allows service carriers, such as ISPs and telcos, and
other large distributed organizations to create multiple secure virtual private networks. Supporting
the Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC) standard allows PERMIT Enterprise to operate within any
network deploying other IPSEC-compliant security products. This is the first scaleable,
interoperable network security solution that integrates secure VPN, access control, and
authentication technologies in a single system.

''There is no VPN solution on the market today that compares to PERMIT Enterprise,'' said Tim
Hember, president of TimeStep. ''With the integration of Entrust's PKI and Check Point's
FireWall-1(TM), PERMIT Enterprise offers both carriers and corporations a turnkey solution with
unprecedented certificate management, scaleability and IPSEC interoperability. PERMIT Enterprise
finally unlocks the business potential of the Internet.''

PERMIT Enterprise is the only secure VPN solution that enables users to create multiple secure
VPNs within intranets and extranets. The central management suite, PERMIT/Director(TM), allows
network administrators to assign users and resources to different groups, through X.509v3 attribute
certificates, thus controlling who can communicate with whom. This is ideal for business-to-business
communications in which several customers, vendors, and colleagues can collaborate in real time
over a secure multi-company extranet. For example, automobile manufacturers and their suppliers
can share design specifications and arrange shipments, attorneys can share confidential briefs with
clients and colleagues; and financial service companies can transfer funds and portfolio information.

PERMIT Enterprise is also the only IPSEC solution with an open architecture capable of hooking
into any standard X-509 public-key infrastructure (PKI). With Entrust's PKI technology embedded,
PERMIT Enterprise delivers the Internet-wide scaleability and advanced business intranet and
extranet solutions demanded by multinational corporations and service carrier customers. Integration
of the Entrust technology enables PERMIT Enterprise to offer sophisticated PKI capabilities, such
as cross-certification, digital certificate management, certificate revocation checking, and
LDAP-compliant directory structure support.

Integration of the Check Point FireWall-1 enterprise security solution, makes PERMIT Enterprise
the first solid state platform to offer Check Point security. This enables organizations to leverage the
performance benefits achieved with hardware-based encryption systems while still benefiting from
Check Point's powerful Stateful Inspection network traffic technology.
