Guiliani is clearly going after the right wing fear mongering and hate voting block. This is a passionate group (Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, etc). They have devoted following. Karl Rove was very successful using this block to get Bush elected.

There is nothing equivalent to this group on the left that is this well organised, passionate, and effective.

To paraphrase Theresa Heinz, we could be in for four more years of hell.
