While artists may have been under the thumb of their patrons, just as artists were under Stalin, for example, sly traces of their mockery of authority come out. I don't think you can really use the patronage system of the Middle Ages to prove what a conservative group artists are. I'm not sure why you even want to.

When you look at artists- painters, poets, writers, sculptors, movie makers, actors, singers, performance artists, comics- I just don't know why you would even bother to try to argue these folks are conservative. It's nuts, imo.

I didn't know you watched the BBC nightly. Happy to know that.
