BARCELONA, Oct 6 (Reuter) - Peter Job, chief executive of Reuters
Holdings Plc (RTR.L), said on Monday that financial markets could suffer if companies fail to revamp their computer systems for the millennium.

Job, speaking to an international management conference in Barcelona,
urged companies to rethink their strategies in the face of what he
described as a ''forest fire'' threatening global information systems.

There are global concerns about a technology problem experts have
dubbed the ''millennium bug'' that could shut down millions of computers at the beginning of the year 2000.

''Indeed, if we find in 1999 there are a number of companies with
essential operation systems which have not been rectified for the
millennium, that could have an impact on the stock market, the valuation of those companies, the market as a whole,'' Job said.

''And it could be a dead year for product demand in terms of information technology,'' he added.
