NIBLACK RECEIVES FINAL PERMITS FOR UNDERGROUND EXPLORATION
Niblack Mining Corp. has received final permits and approvals for the planned underground exploration program on the copper-zinc-gold-silver Niblack VMS project in southeast Alaska. The final permits, granted by the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Environmental Conservation and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, represent a milestone achievement for the company as it enters a new phase of advanced-stage exploration. The overall scope of exploration activity will now include both year-round underground and surface work aimed at delineating the highly prospective stratigraphy at the Niblack project's Lookout zone and Mammoth area.
With the receipt of the final permits, work crews will complete construction of the infrastructure necessary for the underground program. This includes waste rock storage sites, sediment ponds, water treatment systems, fuel tank storage and camp facilities. The construction work, which began in April, is on schedule to meet targeted deadlines. J.S. Redpath Corp., the company's underground contractor, will also begin to mobilize equipment to the property. Mobilization to the property in anticipated to last six weeks, and initiation of the portal face is scheduled to commence in August. About the Niblack exploration programs
The primary purpose of the underground exploration program is to test the deeper extents of gold-rich base metal mineralization defined at the Lookout zone. It will also provide access to over 1,500 metres (5,000 feet) of highly prospective stratigraphy on the opposite fold limb between the Lookout zone and Mammoth area that is inaccessible to drilling from surface. The planned program for the underground exploration contemplates a total of 1,800 metres (6,000 feet) of underground development, consisting of a 1,000-metre (3,000 foot) main access drift, and three cross-cuts, each approximately 300 metres (1,000 feet) in length. Approximately 6,000 metres (20,000 feet) of underground drilling will take place over the first phase.
The focus of the surface-based, 4,000-metre (12,500 feet) drill program (reported in Stockwatch May 31, 2007) is to continue with the expansion of the Lookout zone mineralization using the company's exploration model that has been successfully used over the 2005 and 2006 drill programs. In particular, the expansion of massive sulphide and stringer mineralization located along a second, subparallel trend to the main Lookout zone that was discovered in late 2006 will be a priority.
