ANY thinking individual would know it is NOT racist, but rather the ILLEGAL part that is bothering most of us.

"Most of us" is your key phrase. The fact is that some of those who object to the immigration ARE racist just as some who objected to previous waves of immigration were racist. If two people say the same thing, how can you differentiate between the racist and the not racist motivation?

Differentiation and nuance can problematic for advocates on the left just as it is for advocates on the the right.
