"Whose fault is it if not the citizens of Mexico?"

The average citizen never really had the power. Ok, now true, the revolution of Pancho Villa did, briefly, give power to the average citizen. But it didn't last very long before it was co-opted by the wealthy.

Come on, CJ, when do the wealthy and the people in power share that power and wealth willingly? I will give Mexico that it was founded by Spain, the least democratic colonial power but then Mexico has been independent for nearly as long as we have. And its not like the democratic changes in the US were hidden from the world. I believe people get what they want.....there is a cost to the American democracy that many people don't want to pay; to whit, look at the conservatives on this thread.......they would do away with half the laws on the books. In fact, their Supreme Court is trying to do just that. Why? Enforcement of laws cost money and takes money away from them. You don't think the average citizen in Mexico doesn't understand that equation? I think they do.

Ultimately, I believe the people get what they want. If they don't have what they want....say like the Eastern Europeans of the '70s.......they do eventually. I don't think the power of the people should ever be underestimated. You assume that everyone thinks our way of life is ideal.......I don't agree with that premise.
