''Hopefully'' Rushdie will be executed one day - Iran cleric
BBC Monitoring ^ | June 30 2007 | Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran

monitor.bbc.co.uk

Addressing the Friday Prayers worshippers, Ayatollah Jannati, expressed hope that one day Salman Rushdie will be executed having expressed regret that he had not been executed yet. The Ayatollah did not directly exhort anyone to carry the late Ayatollah Khomeyni's fatwa, saying [091030]:

"The knighthood [Of Rushdie] is one of the other actions that the anti-Islam elements conduct against it. It was a few years since this issue had been dead. And much was spent on it. At any rate, despite the fact that so long a time has elapsed and regrettably [the Fatwa] was not carried out and which God-willing it will be carried out, … the queen has granted this knighthood. The result is that the West is even more hated now than before. Really, Britain and America are the most hated countries amongst the advanced nations of the world… God-willing the execution [of Rushdie] will be carried out one day". [091127]
