Britain terror threat at 'critical'
Glasgow airport attack tied to attempted London bombings

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Britain's terror alert level was raised to "critical" over the weekend after a sport utility vehicle was driven into an entrance at Glasgow Airport in Scotland in an attack that was linked by authorities to two earlier attempted car bombings in London.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who took office only a few days ago, raised the country's threat level after emergency government meetings Saturday.
Police said the attack on the airport was likely linked to two car bombs found in London's West End Friday that didn't detonate. See related story.
Four men were reported in police custody on Sunday in connection with the incidents.
Two of the men were detained after the Glasgow incident.
Separately, police arrested two other individuals near the city of Liverpool.
The incidents come as Britain approaches the second anniversary of bombings on London's transport system that killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds on July 7, 1995. See related story.
