In the US what he said would not legally be slander, but then we at least still have some decent protection of free speech. What he said isn't more slanderous than comments routinely made on SI. Should we send the least accurate and/or most extreme 20% on SI to jail or make them pay a large fine? He was in a position of authority. The people on SI are not.
