That's a load of revisionist history crap, Nadine. We lost Vietnam because we just weren't as committed as the people that actually LIVED there. The corrupt crooks we put in to run S. Vietnam inspired no loyalty in their people, whereas Ho Chi Minh had his side ready to fight to the last man, woman and child. And so a tiny country beat a superpower that dropped more bombs on them than had been dropped in WWII, by knowing the ground and refusing to lose.

Vietnam is the war most like Iraq. As with Iraq, it was a completely elective war launched on lies. As with Iraq, the effort was characterized by incompetence and a succession of do-overs and second, third and fourth tries that all failed. As with Iraq, the entire population was not enlisted in the effort and at least half the people were never on board, seeing through the government's bullshit rationalizations for the war and continuing the war. Domino theory then that never came to pass, same sort of crap now.
