I think the message by the Libby commutation will be troubling to some... Mr. Libby was found guilty by a jury of his peers of serious crimes. Obstruction of Justice and Perjury are serious indeed. But the penalty he will pay for such crimes is virtually nil. His penalty of $250,000 will be covered by donations. He remains a felon (no pardon), but the impact on him will not be great. He will go to work for a lobbyist or think tank and make five times what he made in the White House. His "personal discomfort" by being convicted...virtually nothing. Heck, Paris Hilton suffered more "personal discomfort" than did Mr. Libby.
