Re: Then again, in recent years cable companies have improved their own offerings, and many customers will swear by them, even if TiVo aficionados continue to hold their noses. In many ways, this launch with Comcast is more important than even the launch of the Series 3.

I have a Tivo S3 and the latest Comcast Motorola box sitting side by side, connected to the same TV.

The Motorola box is peachy for something that can't cost Comcast more than ~$300.

The Tivo is so much better it's as though they were different devices. Response when you go to change and channel, pause a show, fast forward a show, etc. is nearly instantaneous on the
Tive but varies randomly on the cable box between a couple of seconds to up to 15 - the cabcle box DVR is simply unusable after you've seen what it's like to have a Tivo.

OTOH, $800 is a serious price to pay for a gadget, especially since there was just no way to know how well it worked until I'd actually bought one.
