The question is will US car manufacturers win union concessions to equalize with other car manufacturers like, Toyota and Honda employee benefits, so that unions can organize the Japanese owned factories in the US?

It is a step forward to rebuild union movement. Flexible union wages and health care enforced by state and federal agencies.

This is a long time coming, because of the wage difference of (unionized $19/hr or $26 with fringe vs. non-unionized 410/hr)workers in the automobile industry in the US. Unions are locked out of foreign owned car factories.

Fuel economy we can redesign, weight and momentum coasting of any car, with aerodynamics of lift and tire traction(friction from over sized tire waste fuel). Ford just advertized 37 miles per gallon cars, this week on TV(July 2nd, 2007)?

But wages are differentiated by age and experience. And car industry and unions had to go back and recruit younger generation workers?
