Sony laptops are known to be a little more delicate than the average laptop, especially the very light executive models. The ThinkPads are little stronger than average, but not by much.

Unfortunately my company has discovered the Lenovo Thinkpads are not as durable as the older IBM Thinkpads.. which I found a little odd since I believe Lenovo was the contract manufacturer for the former IBM Thinkpad line. We are seeing noticeably higher failure rates with the Lenovos than the old IBMs... also the plastic is thinner and construction flimsier.
