13 generations is about 280 years, and not ONE of them married a Latin, Asian, Hispanic or African? Sound like your family needs to integrate a little bit! Do you live in one of those communities we hear about up in some mountain area where everyone marries their cousin? Face it, your family is a relic of the past, and not at all typical of the USA.

What you say is politically correct, but inaccurate -- or worse. It is what people who have found a way to exploit you, and use your productivity to their benefit, want you to believe. It makes their job easier.
America by its nature (continual immigration, all men created equal, individual ability valued more than familial ties) destroys the tribalism you describe. Your family may be trying to maintain its tribal heritage (which is pathetic since tribalism is a bad thing), but in the end the USA's principles will win and your family will fail. One of your grandkids will fall in love with some sweet Chinese girl, and over the generations that act will repeat and repeat, and your house of cards will collapse. Even your tribal family will eventually change from being members of your tribe to being good old everyman Americans. That's the way it goes, and there aint anything you can do about it other than move back to Sweden or wherever you're ancestors came from 280 years ago.
As for my labor being exploited, you couldn't be more off base. I don't know where to start, but if my job is exploitation, please, exploit me a bit more.... |
