Yes. The reason Cyclamate popped into my head as an example was I still recall how upset I was when it was taken off the market. It took maybe 20 years to come up with a decent tasting substitute. But there are now several, which is why I questioned why DDT substitutes haven't show up.

The tests that were used to ban Cyclamate involved huge amounts tested on rats.

It was obvious at the time how silly that decision was. But they did it anyway.
