It is quite unlikely that the purchase of these two 10-unit systems for "creating beta-test product" are a sign of IOM's entry into the CD-R market.

The more probable answer is that they will be used to create and internally distribute test discs of new software -- such as subsequent versions of 'Record-It'. 20 Cd-R drives is not quantity enough for testing mass production media (nor is it the method typically employed; a number of chemical integrity and optical tests of dyes and plastic substrates are used rather than just a simple CD-R 'burn').

Additionally, a quantity such as this would be used to archive and internally distribute tech docs and other 'company' data among various divisions and departments. The company 'One-Off CD Shops' is simply name-dropping in the case of this press release.
