For the 90% of people who over indulge in alcohol or drugs, it just makes them stupid while they are using, and sometimes in addition to making themselves stupid, they actually do some REALLY terrible things...robbery, rape, murder, etc...
BUT for the 10% that are actually addicted to whatever it is they use, they, their families, AND the communities they live in, keep on paying, and paying and paying....Not only money, but the angst factors as well.
Now, IF we could send up ALL drug dealers for maybe 50+ years with no parole, maybe the problem would be somewhat lessened. Plus make it mandatory that the addicted folks stay in a facility for at least 3 years until their addiction is under control. |
