for the record: clerk.house.gov "Clinton Tax Hike of 1993" or the "OMNIBUS BUDGET RECONCILIATION ACT OF 1993" (5Aug1993) this is the nice thing about looking at 'official' stats...sort of takes the wind out error. as you can recall, the Democrats had the House (Tom Foley) until Jan 1995. Republicans can argue all they want, or 'monkey wrench', but the fiscal sanity of the 90's was first addressed by the administration with this bill. Gingrich's later 'Contract with America', I think, was a response to the administrations correct take on fiscal responsibility of the earlier '93 time... sort of like the icing on the cake. remember that old Wendy's commercial, 'Where's the beef?'. the Republicans were the bun in this commercial.
