The Libby commutation was strictly to seal his lips. I'm sure Bush had hoped to pardon him on the way out the door (and still will), but the judge ordering Libby to jail forced his hand. Bush couldn't take the chance Libby might cut a deal for freedom and implicate other people in the WH. As Cheney's Chief of Staff, he must know EVERYTHING.

So, what we've got here is a WH operative who commits crimes, probably at the behest OF the President, and gets a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from the President. I'm sure he'll be amply compensated for all his trouble once the Bushies leave office.

Wouldn't Tony Soprano have LOVED to have the pardon power! What a perversion of a power granted to the executive to RIGHT wrongs!
