But the Turks have some vital national interests at stake

This may seem like a silly question, but aside from some land what about the majority-Kurdish region of Turkey (Eastern Turkey) is of vital national interest to the rest of Turkey (which is majority Turk)? Czechoslovakia split into two countries peacefully. What, aside from Turkish pride, prevents Turkey from agreeing to the idea of an independent Kurdistan, and giving the logical geographical regions of Turkey to the new Kurdistan?

At the least you'd think Turkey would be pretty happy about no longer bordering Iraq.....
