First server-centric NIC vendor to announce I2O plans
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1997--Adaptec has announced that its Fast Ethernet network interface cards (NICs) now include support of an I2O hardware device module (HDM).
The company will debut the technology at its Networld+Interop Atlanta '97 tradeshow booth No. 5737. Adaptec's integration of an I2O HDM into its Fast Ethernet NIC server-centric driver suite underscores the company's commitment to the industry's I2O initiative and to the creation of higher performance servers.
I2O, or Intelligent Input/Output, is a technology architecture that improves computer subsystem efficiency. It accomplishes this by taking the burden of device driver and protocol applications away from the CPU and moving them to dedicated I2O processors.
''Adaptec is realizing its vision of being the number one server NIC vendor worldwide,'' said David Mendenhall, marketing manager for network products at Adaptec, Inc. ''Availability of an I2O HDM gives server manufacturers one more reason to choose Adaptec for high performance network products.''
The I2O HDM will be available with Adaptecs Fast Ethernet NIC drivers in December 1997.
