I think anyone who watched Bush's unbridled spending, which has been with us since the beginning of his reign of error, would know the man is no conservative. It would actually be nice to see some real conservatives emerge from both parties, FISCAL conservatives, since we cannot go on spending on everything. I am for some government spending, on programs of great national importance, but all the little porkchop projects, that add up to an awful lot of spending, and the programs that aren't really critical, really ought to be scheduled for demolition. I know it's painful to stop spending money you don't have, because once you have no real barriers (like reality, or a budget) what is there to stop you but some sort of principle like "We really shouldn't spend quite this much".

The Iraq war and its "off budget" billions has broken my heart. I am just so damn sad at all that money lost. There are things we really need to do in this country, although we can argue about what those things are, but surely there is waste we could agree on if only some group of fiscal conservatives (preferably bipartisan) would emerge and try to put some brakes on this runaway fiscal train. And when a liberal like me says that, you know the world has run mad.
