Sometimes market makers will test the waters when they are getting
ready for a stock rise. They do this when the volume calms down
and then drop the bid to see how many sellers they draw out, when
the drop in price fails to yield anymore selling and the buyers try to
gobble up the cheaper stock, they know its ready and the move
up thru shorts begins . I believe the scenario is developing now
for a move up to announcement time of higher earnings...gil
