I had a similar experience with VLO. Bought for the first time in the 48 range, then sold in the 74s. My thinking was that I should take profits, etc.

The more I studied the matter, however, the more convinced I became that well-managed domestic refiners and integrated producer/refiners present an investment opportunity of a lifetime, one I liken to buying CSCO or INTC in early 1998. I therefore got over my seller's regret and bought back all my VLO in the same range at which I sold and have added since then. There are of course risks, but risk/reward is amazing.

Oil at 70 is a joke. It will be at 100 before we know it, with very healthy crack spreads in place.
