Well, don't get carried away. I am probably against more than you think I am. The problem (imo) with the Victoria's secret stuff (and other sexual print material in advertising), is that it's everywhere. You go to the mall, and you see pictures of women who look like high class hookers in the VS windows. In their TV adds, again, you see the same thing. There is nothing wrong with beauty, or sexuality, but our culture is dripping with it. Not only does this avalanche of female sexual material make "normal" women feel inadequate, it also affects the emphasis of the society, and imo has affected our children adversely. Should the emphasis in our society be on sexuality, and on the media's skewed view of sexuality? Those are questions we all have to answer for ourselves.
I have no problem with what people do sexually, and I am MUCH more liberal than most people are, in terms of what I accept from people with regard to how they express their sexuality. I really don't care what people do, in private, as long as they don't hurt others or exploit children. But that doesn't mean I want our society centered around a lot of sexual memes. I consider sexual relations a private business, best conducted privately. I wouldn't outlaw porn, but I don't like seeing it go mainstream either. In the 60's you would only have seen pictures like the Victoria's Secret adds in "men's" magazines. IMO that was probably a good thing. |
