This guy gives his reasons why the flat earthers are going after Edwards so hard even though he is no threat to them at the present. While he has a point in what he says I think the bigger reason is that they are afraid of Edwards more than any other democratic candidate who is in the race right now. Edwards would receive more votes than any other declared democrat and therefore would be harder to steal the election from that Obama or Hillary.

It's About the Poor: Why FOX News and Corporate-Owned Media Are Destroying John Edwards
A. Alexander, July 6th, 2007

It is rather amusing that FOX News, the network that ensures its coverage fairly well balances in favor of corporations and the Republican Party, is spending an inordinate amount of time and effort attacking Democratic Presidential hopeful, John Edwards. As it is FOX News's mission to ensure GOP electoral success, it is quite strange that the network is investing so much time and money trying to destroy a second-tier Democratic candidate. Frankly, John Edwards poses no threat and there is no hope that he will ever be a threat to the Republican Party's 2008 presidential aspirations.

Wouldn't FOX News's resources, time and, such as it is, talent be better spent pummeling both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? After all, they are the Democratic frontrunners, which many polls have indicated would likely defeat all the Republican Party's candidates in the general election. Of course, it would make more sense for FOX News to undermine the Democratic Party's leading candidates. Why then is FOX News and, in all fairness, most of America's corporate-owned media doing all that they can to dismantle Edward's candidacy?

The reason FOX News and other corporate-owned media outlets are viciously assailing Edwards is glaringly obvious, isn't it? Neither Hillary nor Obama are discussing how best to help America's poor. Only Edwards is doing that. Oh sure, Hil and Bar might nibble around the edges of certain social issues, but the closest they'll come to confronting poverty is to timidly mention something they call, "the middle-class squeeze."

Hil and Bar will rub up against the concept of "health care for all," but they aren't serious about it. They're just paying lip service. Goodness, Hillary is practically owned by the health care industry. She, probably more than any other Senator, has benefited greatly from the health care industry's largesse. She learned the hard way that, for an American politician, there isn't any money in trying to bring real change to America's corporate-dominated health care industry.

This John Edwards guy though, he's got a serious health care plan and he isn't afraid to say he'll pay for it by raising taxes. Goodness gracious, he has no shame! The man is dirty-double-dog-dare-ya deadeye serious about doing something to improve the lives of America's poor, and he is double-down serious about getting national health care for the American people. FOX News and the corporate-owned media don't care that Edwards has a glaciers chance in a global warming world to become president, he is A SERIOUS DANGER to America's corporate culture of greed and gluttony.

They know Edwards will never be president, but that is subordinate to his message. For the love of all things greedy and gross, if big business allows this man to talk about the poor and nationalized health care; if FOX News and the corporate-owned media let him do it without being taught a harsh lesson -- without being publicly destroyed -- some other future candidate is going to think that they, too, might want to take on the issue of poverty. If that were to continue on from one election to the next, all those poor people that the corporations and the Republican Party have spent the better part of forty years and billions of dollars demoralizing and disenfranchising through political attack ads, AM right-wing hate radio, and polling station intimidation tactics -- all designed to make the poor feel hopeless and powerless and as though neither they nor their vote matters -- why, if John Edwards isn't stomped out then all those poor people will begin to feel important, vital, empowered, and they will want to vote again! and again! and again!

And, if those currently disenfranchised and demoralized poor people start voting, big business and Republicans will never win another election. That's why FOX News and America's corporate-owned media spend so much time attacking a second-tier Democratic candidate. They have to attack Edwards; his message is a threat to corporate America's control on government.
