BEIJING, Jul 12, 2007 -- Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co Ltd said Qualcomm Inc has no claim to royalties for China's domestically-developed TD-SCDMA 3G technology, as Datang is the appropriate rights holder, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Xie Yongbin, a Datang senior vice president.

"It doesn't make sense to say that Qualcomm's CDMA is the same as ours," Xie said, adding that the principles behind code division multiple access are "public" and not exclusive to Qualcomm.

Last week a Qualcomm senior vice president, Jing Wang, said the US company is entitled to royalties from TD-SCDMA's products when the service is launched commercially because core elements of its CDMA technology are present in TD-SCDMA.
