We have a combination of gross distortions and exaggerations used daily in the talk-radio world and political campaigns, and the new unaccountable, untouchable Super Executive that can do whatever it likes in the name of national security, including lying through their teeth to Congress or anyone else.

Put that together and the odds of an honest politician these days are really slim. More political advantage in lying and distorting, until the electorate gets sick of it all and spits these assholes out for good.
