she had a whole set of reasons and philosophical ideas, and she didn't take well to people who rejected them.

Rand was a genius who made several major leaps in Philosophy. It was too much to expect her to go the anarchist/Libertarian route, and she rejected it when it was presented to her by several thinkers, including my old teacher, Andrew J Galambos.

She was right to do so. History shows us that radical change in Society moves in short changes, much like engineering does of products. The most major change in Society happened in 1776, with the capstone set by Tom Paine. "We don't need a King." That came out of Paine's "Common Sense." But it was preceded and followed by many scribblers, and implemented by our Society over the next 200 years.

Attempts to completely change a society and replace it with a new, Utopian one, have been terrible disasters. I give you the French and the Russian revolution. Followed by Mao, Pal Pot, etc.

History shows us that what works is a cobbled together mix of "old, new and blue." It's never totally clean.

What our "Founding Fathers" accomplished is truly astounding.
