Johnathan Adler at the Volokh Conspiracy makes the point that government funding of stem cell research is, to this administration, not a political question, but a moral one.

I'd say its both, but I'm using political in a broader sense. I would not limit the term "political" to just the seeking of personal or partisan advantage in political contests or opinion.

I have no great problem with banning smoking indoors in public places (or those providing public accommodation).

I have a problem with the whole group of ideas behind laws that apply "to those providing public accommodation". They are private places just like those that don't let the general public in.

Personally I'd prefer to have no smoking in such areas, but I have a problem in principle with extensive regulation of such areas, and that extends to prohibiting smoking.
