With respect to foreign policy, there is at this moment on the horizon only one issue: do we or do we not attack Iran?

Raimondo, in the piece linked below, thinks an attack is inevitable.

antiwar.com

The blogger Xymphora, on the other hand, thinks that an attack will not happen. He thinks that the American establishment has neutralized the power of neo-cons, an opinion perhaps a bit optimistic, or so it seems to me. The neo-con coalition appears to be strong, while Americans remain divided and confused.

My take on the matter is mixed and unstable. Some rational part of me is confident that no attack will occur. The damage to America would be so vast that even the parasites could not want it. After all, what good to a parasite is a dead host?

But then there is Podhoretz, grand ol’ honcho among neo-con agitators, lusting for blood. “As an American and as a Jew, I pray with all my heart that he will.”

I.e., he prays that Bush will bomb Iran, i.e., that Bush will kill people in Persia who present no threat to us, i.e., that Bush will advance the cause of Israeli imperialism.

Considering that the USA has sacrificed 4000 of her own on the altar of Israeli imperialism, that the USA has caused the death of perhaps half a million people by invading Iraq, and that the USA will have spent maybe trillion dollars when the dust clears, one would be foolish to think that the parasites cannot pull off yet another war, no matter how irrational, bizarre, harebrained, destructive and utterly and totally sick.

The rational side of me says that most likely there will be no invasion, and this same rational side hopes that there will be none.

But, ah, somewhere down in my soul lurks a dark side, a Leninesque substrate that whispers tempting words, such as ..... let the chaos begin.... the worse it gets, the better it gets.........you are in a better position than most to survive .... in the chaos, America, the real America, will find courage, will stand up, will overcome demoralization .... and then, ah then, there will be a delicious settling of scores.

Of course, also in the same place (that is to say, my soul) there is a higher side, an angel, and this angel also whispers words, such as ...... watch out, fellow, you might get what you want and rest assured it won’t work out as you hope.... there is rough justice in the world .... karma..... a god ... or gods .... or at least an accountant back in some parallel dimension of the universe .... who makes tiny, weightless bookkeeping entries .... line by line by line .... and nothing escapes him, not even (.....or rather not especially....) your lust for revenge on the traitors and parasites and hypocrites who have destroyed your country.

This angel tells me to stick to my knitting.....to defend my family.... to be patient.... to let the quiet, nerdy little accountant out in hyper-space handle matters -- that his weightless entries add up to a force stronger than gravity .... of that I can be as sure as the world.....
