Some men make a positive difference in government. Just off the top of my head, I thought Koop did an outstanding job handling the AIDs issue, and I was impressed by the way he dealt with abortion as well.

I don't think it has to be about politics first. I think you can rise above it, at least temporarily, especially in periods of crisis. I wish we'd done more of that in our response to terrorism. But I'm afraid that boat has sailed.
