OT: Tradelite, is there some rule in the Realtor Handbook recommending against working for family? My sister in law is trying to sell her house.Having a big family, her brother in law recommends his nephew. So, she calls him and they arrange a meeting at her place. The nephew doesn't show up, doesn't call. She calls him, his cell# is off and so is his answering service. She waits a couple of days and finally gets a hold of him. They finally meet and sign a contract but she has reservations since she heard he works as a car salesman on the side. Two months go by and not one showing.
(The house is priced at 615K, his comparative analysis was 575-630) He has not come back to take pictures and put up flyers like he promised. Sister in law thinks about firing him but realizes things are slow so maybe not his fault. So, she plans on calling him to to up the commission to 6% from 5%. She leaves several messages, they arrange a meeting Monday. Monday comes, he doesn't show up doesn't call. His answering service is off, the brokerage can't locate him either. By now, she's decided to cancel the listing contract. She gets a hold of him Wednesday, he promises to call back Thursday with a meeting time to cancel contract. Thursday comes, no call. Sister in law is hopping mad- says if he wasn't family she would go to the office and speak to someone in charge. She's wondering how to fire him gently but he won't even show up!
