"But my reasoning was this: You said Shep hopes for a bad outcome so he can blame the right. Shep wants out of Iraq. I assumed that meant you thought leaving Iraq was equal to a bad outcome. And my point is wanting us out of Iraq may be hoping for a good outcome."

Your reasoning is parsed and flawed. There is no argument to stay in Iraq or leave Iraq among thoughtful people. Foreign forces, whether police or military, who are in a land or a home to stop terrorism and support peaceful order of the place have a supportable cause. No reasonable and sane person wants a foreign force in their home otherwise. No reasonable and sane person wants to be that force or to support such a force otherwise. Everyone wants forces like that to be 'out' of their home but not before their home is safe from hostile and brutal attacks. So simply stating Iraqis want us out and Americans want us out is stating the obvious without operational principle.

Wanting out of Iraq, at least in our current role, is universal among decent people. The arguments here have nothing to do with whether or not that should happen. The argument has to do with whether or not we should abandon Iraqis in their hour of need. When people dismiss that principled issue, to argue is support of whatever Bush wants or whatever can be said to hurt Bush, then they have betrayed principle to bolster some silly partisan agenda. When people argue that Bush is bad because we are not out and the left wing is good because they say we want out, they are arguing nothing and are throwing partisan mud balls. I have never seen Shep do otherwise. So I said honestly that I don't believe he gets it. Why, because he is blinded by his partisan loyalties.

The fact is, abandoning Iraq now would have devastating consequences to America in the future. He has shown me that he is willing to dismiss every single scenario that would erupt just to keep his partisan rants going. That is a model many people follow. It tells me that he doesn't care how bad the consequences would be as long as he could damage one side of the corrupt partisan pile of crap in Washington to get his sid a step higher on that pile of crap. He's got lots of company.
