Well, I would guess that they get maybe $35 - $50 per 1 Gb Jaz cartridge, and they can purchase 1.3 gb worth of CD-R for $7. The point of Jaz is not to "do what a CD-R does; only better." The point of Jaz is to provide an open-ended, re-writable, exchangeable storage system. The point of CD-R is to provide an inexpensive, permanent archive, test-disc, and software distribution method. I think the PR would be meaningless; and possibly show, in a negative light, that IOM would be foolish enough to consider Jaz as panacea to all computing needs...but perhaps I'm being overly-practical (and it's just an opinion, anyway).

The current price slump is no big deal -- I think we'll get a nice earnings surprise, possible cause for celebration with the hanging of many Jaz-o'-lanterns. (.24)
