It's hard to eat well today. In America we have thousands of food choices within immediate grasp, so what do we choose mostly? The convenient ones. Mea culpa. There is a price for that. We trade quality for that convenience. The industry has invested many millions into taste appeal. Partially hydrogenated oils comes to mind right away. Those things make cookies and crackers taste so good that you can binge. You can actually tell the difference between snacks with and without PHOs. No one seems to eat only one or two. Remember the Lays Potato Chip slogan, "Bet you can't eat just one?" That goes for about every snack food there is. Hydrogenated oils has to be about the worst one they've ever come up with as far as health goes. Then, you have bleached flour, then sugar, then sodium compounds for taste and preservation. We trade quality for shelf life too. I don't see how we win on that one. Years ago, foods were fresher. If they got old, they were thrown away. I think they kept you healthier.

My diary today: Late breakfast: A scoop of vanilla whey protein mixed in water. 1 cup of old fashioned oats boiled in water mixed with 3/4 cup of frozen blueberries. Afternoon snack: Date and Walnut energy bar. These are the best I have ever tried. Great blend of flavors and no aftertaste. They're expensive, though. $14 for 8 of them. I get them here: mothernature.com
Dinner: a hot veggie hoagie with provolone cheese and hot peppers - delivered and delicious! Water throughout.
